Ideas that Work

The light bulb is a symbol of ideas. This compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) is a symbol of my campaign and my
commitment to reducing the city’s carbon footprint.

CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent light bulbs, last up to 10 times longer and cost little up front. (www.energystar.gov)

I use these in my home and our city is moving to nearly 100% usage of CFLs in city buildings. I invite you to join me in doing the same in your home.

If every home in America replaced just one incandescent light bulb with a CFL, in one year it would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of more than 800,000 cars. (www.energystar.gov)

Whether walking precincts or tabling at the Farmer’s Market, my campaign will be distributing CFL’s as a reminder of my commitment to reducing our city’s carbon footprint and how one small change can make a big difference.
